Born in 1980 in Lima, Peru, Garrido-Lecca lives and works between Mexico City and Lima. In her practice, Garrido-Lecca employs a range of symbolic materials and languages that focus on highlighting the tensions between ancestral knowledge and colonial structures. Using historical references she traces cycles of cultural, social, and economic transformation around changes in the use of natural resource. Her work deals with the relationships between nature and culture, while questioning the traditional hierarchies of knowledge. To celebrate the representation of the artist, Vermelho is exhibiting two of her videos, Yacimientos, from 2013, and Contornos, from 2014. The screenings starts Thursday, May 11th, from 7 pm to 10 pm. The videos will be on view until June 17th. A selection of her recent solo shows includes Ximena Garrido-Lecca. 34th Bienal de São Paulo.
