Juan Sorrentino (Chaco, Argentina, 1978) es un destacado artista de la escena contemporánea argentina. Sorrentino crea obras e instalaciones que exploran conceptos de lenguaje sonoro en un contexto poético mediante interacciones inquisitivas con elementos a través del sonido. Si bien los materiales y procesos varían de un proyecto a otro, su metodología y preocupaciones formales son consistentes. Seducido por la fenomenología de un encuentro, el artista busca transmitir lo sensorial a través de lo corpóreo. Se acerca a las propiedades físicas y simbólicas del paisaje y la arquitectura con encuentros para el cuerpo, resultando en gestos poéticos. ... via the UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists; the Residence Prize of Bourges; Fondo Nacional de las Artes (FNAC); the Goethe Institute of Córdoba; and the Ministerio de Cultural de España Reina Sofia, among others. Sorrentino has exhibited at Metronom (Barcelona), Espacio Marzana (Bilbao), Circulo de Bellas Artes (Madrid), MARCO (Vigo), Nau Coclea (Girona), IMAGO (Buenos Aires), Centro Cultural Recoleta (Buenos Aires), Forum Cultural of Guanajuato, and the Teatro Maria Grever (Mexico), among others. His work is included in the collections of the Muséo del Arte Contemporáneo in Bahía Blanca; the Museo Genaro Pérez, the Emilio Caraffa Provincial Fine Arts Museum, and the ONCE Foundation in Spain; and private collections. Sorrentino holds degrees from the Media Center d’Art y Disseny (MECAD) in Barcelona and the University of Córdoba (Argentina). My work is based on inquisitive interactions with objects and materials through sound. While my materials and processes vary from project to project my methodology and formal concerns are consistent. For me, sounds is not limited to what can be perceived by standard human hearing, but also includes other visceral experience. Seduced by the phenomenology of an encounter, I aim to transmit the sensorial through the corporeal. I approach the physical and symbolic properties of landscape and architecture with encounters for the body, resulting in poetic gestures. Recent installations include: -Collapse, a site-specific installation in which the embedded sound vibrations slowly cause the wall to shed layers and collapse over the exhibition period. In Collapse the seismic effect provokes an allegory of slow decadence, tremors reveal hidden layers as the social foundation decays; -Untitled (Briones South) and Untitled (Briones North), two videos that explore the ephemeral fleeting moment of the creative mind shown through a dance of Nature’s shadows on blank canvases carried by the artist through the landscape. -Sound Canvas which asks viewers to create a mental image of a painting described by an unknown narrator explaining their own subjective visual experience of the work without revealing the author or title.
