Descripción de la Exposición

Contextualization: With more than seven decades of existence, the Salão de Abril is a traditional exhibition of great relevance that has always provided throughout its history an important panorama of the arts in Ceará and Brazil. Having been launched as an initiative of the artistic community through the Secretaria de Cultura da União Estadual dos Estudantes (UEE) in 1943, and then carried out by the Sociedade Cearense de Artes Plásticas (SCAP), the exhibit was "adopted" by the municipal administration, publicly recognizing the importance of the Salon, assumed a role as the axis of the cultural life of the capital of Ceará, taking responsibility for its annual performance. Since then, the Salão de Abril has been one of the few political instruments to support the arts (along with the Edital of the Arts), which is the 5th largest city in the country, with a significant regional economic expression and a holder of half the GDP of Ceará. The current municipal administration, however, without any explanation, gave up its 68th edition. The municipal administration also demonstrates its lack of commitment to the arts and culture in the face of non-payment of the 2016 Call for the Arts and many other actions to dismantle cultural policy. The city government relinquished its responsibility, but Civil Society led the Salão de Abril. Faced with the negligence of municipal management, we invited all interested to kidnap the 68th Salão de Abril. With the unpaid collaboration of artists, non-governmental cultural spaces, curators, cultural professionals, gallerists and civil society, we hold the Salão de Abril as an autonomous exhibition that reaffirms its importance and discusses the place of the arts and the policies of encouraging and fostering broad and participatory manner. Proposal: The 68th Edition of the Salão de Abril is an initiative of the Forum of Visual Arts of Fortaleza that gathered decided the format of it. It is an initiative to address the absence of public policies in the area of culture and more specifically the visual arts. The Hall proposes to happen in a decentralized way, interacting with spaces and cultural dynamics of the city, increasing the number of curators and overflowing the limits of a production that does not have the adequate financial resources. Curators: Ana Cecília Soares, Beatriz Furtado, Bitu Cassundé, Cecília Bedê, Herbert Rolim, Jacqueline Medeiros, Maíra Ortins, Narcelio Grud and Pablo Assumpção.
