97 House Maids is a work consisting of an installation and a publication. It depicts 97 photographic images of daily domestic situations and typical scenes of the white wealthy elite in Peru, posted on the social networking site Facebook. This archive of images, selected and downloaded by Daniela Ortiz, explores signs of how these groups in Peru are self-represented in their daily life. In the background of each image one can see a figure or a partial image of a domestic worker in a white uniform who has been intentionally excluded or deleted from the scene. Seen as a series this consistent exclusion of these female domestic workers from the group portraits becomes strongly apparent. Though constantly erased their presence is unavoidable. Daniela Ortiz Currently living in Barcelona and coming from Peru, Daniela Ortiz (1985), focuses in her work on issues of inequality, gender and privilege in relation to class, ethnicity and racism.
