A Kunsthalle Lissabon apresenta A Slow Dance Without Name, a primeira exposição individual em Portugal do artista italiano Jacopo Miliani, patente de 15 de abril a 11 de junho de 2016.
Jacopo Miliani trabalha principalmente com fotografia, instalação e performance. Estes diferentes media tem permitido ao artista desenvolver uma investigação sobre a forma como o espectador cria as suas próprias imagens e o significado a elas associado, através da comunicação e da linguagem. O recurso à performance, bem como a ferramentas e códigos associados ao teatro tenta questionar o papel e estatuto do público e como nos posicionamos num mundo mediado por imagens que fazem parte do imaginário coletivo.
A Slow Dance Without Name é desenvolvida especificamente para a Kunsthalle Lissabon e apresenta uma nova pesquisa de Milani. Uma investigação sobre o poder performativo da linguagem através do ato de desconstrução de uma acção performativa que explora a retórica do striptease. Toda...a exposição faz referência a esta dança lenta, chamada Dança sem título (2016), e que terá lugar apenas durante a inauguração da exposição, tornando-se o ponto de partida para uma reflexão sobre a construção do desejo. Este objeto de desejo, assim como o fluxo de desejo que percorre todas as obras da exposição, constitui-se como uma metáfora que permite questionar e repensar as condições para a construção de imaginários pessoais e coletivos.
A exposição tem início no piso térreo da Kunsthalle Lissabon com a peça Language is a Dancer (2016), um biombo construído a partir de três formas geométricas em madeira lacada, que se torna o palco onde a dança decorrerá durante a inauguração, dando corpo ao discurso de Miliani em torno da produção de desejo. A essência de um striptease pressupõe a existência de um observador. Este jogo de ver e não ver ou perceber e não perceber é, na sua essência, concebida para um público (o voyeur), sem o qual não poderia existir. Tentazioni (2016), outra peça-chave para este projeto, ocupa uma posição central no espaço expositivo da Kunsthalle Lissabon. As luvas gigantescas encontram-se preenchidas por um suposto fluxo sexual acumulado e são reminiscentes de formas culturais populares de representação sexual veiculadas pelos media.
Fags (2016) dá conta da presença de uma ausência. Os cigarros atirados ao chão molhado materializam a passagem do tempo, a espera durante a realização de uma dança, e refletem diretamente sobre o papel do espectador. Simultaneamente, a série de peças de parede, cinco esculturas em latão, possivelmente reminiscentes de balões de fala ou de pensamento, abordam diretamente os visitantes, refletindo não só a sua imagem, mas também, e mais importante, o seu olhar, forçando-os, de certa forma, a olhar para si próprios e, nesse processo, completar o trabalho eles próprios.

Kunsthalle Lissabon presents A Slow Dance Without Name, the first solo show in Portugal by Italian artist Jacopo Miliani, taking place from April 15th to June 11th, 2016.
Jacopo Miliani works mostly with photography, installation and performance. These different media have allowed him to develop a research concerning the way the viewer/spectator creates her own images, as well as meaning, through communication and language. The artist's use of performance and theatre attempts to question the role of the audience and how we interact in a world mediated by images that belong to collective imagination.
A Slow Dance Without Name is developed specifically for Kunsthalle Lissabon and presents Miliani’s new research on this field. A study about language’s performative power through the act of deconstructing a performative-striptease action. The entire exhibition refers to this slow dance, called Dança sem título [Dance without title] (2016), which will take place only during the opening of the exhibition and becomes the starting point for a reflection on the construction of desire. Such an object of desire, as well as the flow of desire that traverses all the works in the exhibition, constitute a metaphor enabling one to rethink the conditions for constructing collective and personal imageries.
The show begins on the ground floor of Kunsthalle Lissabon with Language is a dancer (2016) a black screen built from three geometric wood pieces, which become the stage in which the dance takes place and inspires Miliani’s discourse around desire-production. The essence of a striptease presupposes the existence of a perceiver. This game of seeing and not seeing or perceiving and not perceiving is, in its essence, conceived for an audience (le voyeur) without whom it couldn’t exist. Tentazioni (2016) becomes another key piece for this project, and occupies the center of the main exhibition space. The oversized gloves have been inflated by a supposed accumulated sexual flow and are reminiscent of popular cultural forms of sexual representation, conveyed by mainstream media.
Fags (2016) depicts the presence of an absence. The cigarettes thrown on a wet floor refer to the passage of time, to the action of waiting, during the staging of a dance and reflect directly on the role of the viewer. Furthermore, the series of wall pieces, five brass sculptures, reminiscent of speech and thought bubbles, engage the spectators directly by reflecting not only their image but also, and most importantly, their gaze, forcing them, in a way, to complete the work by themselves.
