Over the centuries in Portugal, Angels have populated the national imaginary universe and being used to decorate spaces, both in profoundly Catholic contexts and also via reminiscences of classical mythology, which have now been de-contextualised by the desacralization process ushered in by the Enlightenment movement.
Integrated within the exhibition 'Angelorum - Mil Anos de Anjos em Portugal' (a Thousand Years of Angels in Portugal), the temporary exhibition, 'Anjos Hoje' (Angels Today) presents a contemporary vision of the image of the Angels, as seen by the fine artists Paulo Neves and Catarina Machado.
