The art competition will be conducted through an open international application process. Artists and interdisciplinary collaborative groups led by artists are encouraged to apply. A monument site for sexual and gender diversity will be implemented by the Ministry of Culture and Media at the Neuer Jungfernstieg / Lombardsbrücke, a prominent location in the heart of the city of Hamburg. The realisation budget is 300,000 Euro (gross). The monument is intended to create a place for the appreciation of ‚diversity‘ and the remembrance of the exclusion and discrimination against non-binary people. It is intended to commemorate the facts of stigmatization and persecution and also the suffering of non-heterosexual people and people outside the gender dichotomy. At the same time, the monument site is intended to establish a prominent space for all members of the LGBTIQ* community and encourage encounters, respect and acceptance.
