Descripción de la Exposición

It is with great pleasure that we present STUDIO 94, the second solo show by Filipe Cortez at the gallery, curated by Nuno Crespo. Opening : September 9 / 6 - 9 pm Duration : 09.09 - 30.10.2021 “Filipe Cortez's work starts from the experience, especially intense among modern people and intensified in our time, that history is chaos, it is irrational, unpredictable, incomprehensible. This experience is rooted not only in the realisation of the impossibility of historical purpose – denial of any teleological claim – but also that the human tools for restitution of time, memory, history, are always doomed to failure. We start from traces and marks and we can only produce traces and marks. (...) There is in this exhibition — as in most of the works of this artist — a happy and challenging game between the question of painting and the construction of memory and the challenge lies in understanding ... how this relationship does not develop through the construction of a mimetic mirror of the world , but by assuming painting as a place where various pieces of the physiognomy of the world come together and condense.
