In The confession of the flesh, Hernâni Reis Baptista gathers a series of works that try to reflect the relation between body and different devices. The artworks that are presented came from devices used for the improvement, agility and strength of the physical body, working simultaneously as capture instruments, orientation and control mechanisms.
Hernâni Reis Baptista (1986) lives and works in Porto. He graduated in Fine Arts – Multimedia, by the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto where he was selected with the acquisition award of the finalists exhibition in 2013. He began to exhibit in 2011, from which stands out the collective exhibitions “CAVE”, in SOLAR, Cinematic Art Gallery (Vila do Conde, 2012), “Sem Quartel”, in Sismógrafo (Oporto, 2014), “SVEART” Saint Vincent European Art (Italy, 2012), “Terreno”, Kubik Gallery (Oporto, 2013) e “Quando alguém morria perguntavam apenas: tinha paixão?” (Oporto, 2018), among others. He presented individually “Mesa”...and “Falha” in Campanhã Station (Oporto, 2011/2013), “Tropismos”, in Vésta (Oporto, 2015), “T-1000”, on Floating Islands, Maus hábitos (Oporto, 2015), “Dog eat dog, in Sismógrafo (Oporto, 2016) and “Intraduzibilidade, Untranslatability, Unubersetzbarkeit”, on Klub Genau, within the art festival “KARAT, the ocean and the river” (Cologne, Germany, 2013).
He also participated in artistic residencies in which stands of the “360o Context and Process”, by Triangle Network in Hangar (Lisbon, 2015), Estudos Gerais do Alvito (Alvito, 2017) and Just Residence (Málaga, 2017). Works mostly with installation, sculpture, vídeo and various digital processes.
