Waltercio Caldas reveals new enigmas in recent works at Mul.ti.plo Espaço Arte
Drawings, objects, images and the entire exhibition treated as language. More than a solo show, the exhibition entitled “States of Image”, which the artist Waltercio Caldas opens on August 24th at 7pm at Mul.ti.plo Espaço Arte, is a surprising reflection around the importance of drawing.
The gallery´s space as an Art cabinet was decisive to receive this “intimate” solo show that is simultaneously powerful and delicate to viewer´s eyes.
“It´s a multiplicity of unique pieces, where the audience has the opportunity of making their own unexpected poetic connections. It´s pure joy for us to say that this exhibition is one of those few, where one who is interested in art will want to see more than once”., elaborates Maneco Muller, the gallery´s director.
The exhibition includes recent and inedited works - including 15 drawings, 3 objects and 1 multiple, specially conceived for...the occasion.
""This series of images that I have being working on is perhaps different from anything that has been conceived as drawing, since they are in fact, objects made of paper. They are images ... and their shadows. In quasi-metaphysics dynamics, I can deepen the relation that exists between what we already know and what suddenly appears to our interpretation…" says Waltercio. "In this set of works, the subject of the drawings is itself the act of drawing".
Waltercio Caldas is known for his solid and remarkable artistic production since the 1970’s. As one of the protagonists of Contemporary Art, he is constantly invited to present his works in the main museums and galleries around the globe. In fact, he will showcase his sculptures in two exhibitions in Paris and Geneva later this year.
Caldas works very enthusiastically to deal with the complexity of his craft. The artist’s current show reflects his profound adversity to the anomaly of the spectacle’s universe, to the stridency of excess, as well as to the courtship of adjectives. After being invited by the gallery, his decision to exhibit came exactly at the time when he had a significant set of works that have something to say, which is precisely his attitude toward his work.
During the exhibition, it will be launched a new book, entitled “The Drawings” published by BEI, with texts by art critic Lorenzo Mammi, discoursing about the trajectory of his drawings. It is the first publication that reflects about the importance of drawings in Caldas’ artistic production. This show is a rare opportunity because among his sculptures and objects, it portrays his drawings as a fundamental component of his career.
On the show’s opening night, it will also be launched the revised catalogue with 77 images of multiples by Waltercio Caldas.
