Caio Marcolini was born in 1985 in Brazil. He divides his time between his sculptures and a career as a jewelry designer. His designer career gave him skills as a craftsman and goldsmith, which are both evident in his creations. However, contemporary art requires more than technique. Thus, his sculptural production is formed by the history of art and seeks to establish a conceptual dialogue with artists such as Ruth Asawa, Tunga, Ernesto Neto, Calder and many others. Formally, his artworks are based on metal threads that are constructed by the artist. The designs are usually coated in metals such as copper and nickel. This metal coating allows the various parts of each piece to have distinct finishes. The malleable material is then used to form systems that resemble rhizomes and other organic structures such as the complexes labyrinths of an anthill. Due to it's intrinsic connection to embroidery, the metal designs resemble a tangle of lines and the sculptures seem to create a border between the second and third dimensions. The multidimensionality gives the impression that the drawing line is detached from the flat surface and has jumped into space. The different methods in which the artworks are presented - sometimes chimeras that leave the wall or the floor, sometimes self-supporting sculptures - emphasizes the ambiguous and changeable nature of his artworks. Caio Marcolini holds a degree in Industrial Design from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and is a technician in gold smithery by SENAI (Brazilian National Service of Industrial Learning). He recently participated in collective exhibitions such as the third edition of the Festival of Sculptures of Rio (Centro Cultural dos Correios, Rio de Janeiro, 2017); "Twenty-three: Contemporary Jewelery in Ibero-America" (Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes Portugal, Lisbon, 2017); 42nd Art Exhibition of Ribeirão Preto (2017); 45 ° Hall of Contemporary Art Luiz Sacilotto (Santo André, SP, 2017); 5 ° SOAL – Latin America's Autumn Show (Memorial da America Latina, São Paulo, 2017); and "THROUGH THE THREAD" (HAG - Home Art Gallery, São Paulo, 2016). Caio Marcolini currently lives and works in the city of Oporto in Portugal.
