Sandra Tamer started her career as an engineer and is an active philanthropist. She currently serves on the board of directors of Action Against Hunger, a recognized global leader that focuses on the fight against malnutrition in children and in the restoration of food security and self-sufficiency in at-risk communities. Tamer also serves on The Tamer Center for Social Enterprise advisory board at Columbia University and on the board of the René Moawad Foundation, which offers training and education to young adults and promotes social economic programs for those living in poverty. She also currently serves on the director’s council of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) in New York and is a member of the museum’s contemporary arts committee and she is member Pérez Art Museum Miami's Board of Trustees. Tamer holds a master's degree in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT.
