Úrsula San Cristóbal Opazo is a musician, researcher and performance artists devoted to medieval music and contemporary interdisciplinary art. She was born in Santiago of Chile where she began studying recorder and early music. Interested in doing interdisciplinary research through her artistic practice as musician, Úrsula combined her musical training with musicology and performance art. In 2007 she founded with the chilean artist Francisco Gonzalez the Grupo Cruce, a collective devoted to artistic experimentation with early music, instalation and performance art. In 2008 Úrsula earned a Bachelor in Music with honours at Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and in 2012 she earned a Master’s degree in Spanish musicology with honours at University of Valladolid (Spain). With a scholarship from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Italian Government, Úrsula earned a Master’s degree in Musicology with honours at University of Milan in April 2013 (see research). The same year, she completed with praise a Bachelor in early music (recorder) at Civica Scuola di musica di Milano (Italy) with Daniele Bragetti. As a musician she has performed with different ensembles in Chile, Spain and Italy, and she has participated in master class and seminaries by Diego Fratelli (counterpoint and renaissance music), Walter van Hauwe (recorder), Jorge Isaac (recorder and performance), Alfredo Bernardini (baroque orchestra), Lorenzo Ghielmi and Mara Galassi (baroque chamber music). Úrsula is devoted to the interpretation of medieval music, so she has followed courses by specialists such as Giovanni Conti, Juan Carlos Asensio (gregorian chant), Claudia Caffagni, Michelle Pasotti (medieval music ensemble), Catherine Schroeder, Marcel Pérès and Anne Delafosse (medieval singing). In the meantime of her musical practice, Úrsula has also developed a career path in the domain of interdisciplinary experimental performance (see solo performances). She has met different performance artists in Latin America and Europe in order to enrich her work on new concert formats and conceptual experiences, where medieval music meets contemporary art. Her solo works has been perfomed in contemporary art festivals, art galleries and academies in Italy, Spain and Lithuania. At the present time Ursula lives in Barcelona, where she works as a freelance experimental performer and researcher in the domain of artistic research and twenty century interdisciplinary art.
