The synagogue in the Pulheim district of Stommeln is one of the few that were not damaged during the pogroms of 1938. In order to do justice to its importance and make a broad public aware of this historical site, the Art Project Stommeln Synagogue was initiated in 1991. Since then, each year the Cultural Department of the City of Pulheim invites an artist to produce a work that interacts with the synagogue—including its history and architecture.
