El pintor Bartosz Beda presenta en la galería Bogotá Arte Contemporáneo BAC una serie de 53 obras y 2 videos como parte de la exhibición ‘Explosión Absoluta (pasando por un desfiladero estrecho), como parte del programa internacional de exhibiciones de la galería, la cual estará abierta al público entre el 26 de Noviembre al 9 de Enero de 2015.
Originarío de Lódz, Polonia, Beda desarrolló interés en la pintura desde temprana edad influenciado por su hermano mayor, quien es pintor en la actualidad y motivado por sus padres hacia las bellas artes, motivo por el cual estudió y adquirió el título de pre-grado y maestría en Bellas Artes en Inglaterra junto con una beca por 6 meses en Dresden Alemania, momento en el cual Beda tuvo la oportunidad de desarrollar su estilo, mejorar su técnica y práctica e investigación artística.
En la actualidad Beda reside en Estados Unidos de América, donde se...encuentra desarrollando un nuevo cuerpo de trabajo, obras que demuestran su interés por crear trabajo que se diferencie de entre los demás. Las obras de Beda ponen al descubierto profundidades ocultas y también genera en el espectador una sensación de algo no dicho. La práctica de Beda evidencia el contexto que influencia su trabajo y devela su consciencia política, en algunos de sus trabajos es posible identificar cómo temas políticos han tenido efecto en su noción del presente, sobre esto él dice “ellas son pinturas del desarrollo físico e intelectual de las preocupaciones del ser humano, tales como seguridad, sentido de pertenencia etc. Ellas son inspiradas por los conflictos de Guerra que han sucedido recientemente en el mundo pero las pinturas no presentan una Guerra en sí”.
Es posible ver la combinación de vida y acción al observar cualquiera de sus obras; Beda está interesado en deformar la pintura y encontrar una manera de hacer la imagen y el color plano, en borrar el punto focal y crear un espacio ilimitado en la superficie del lienzo. Para ello Beda utiliza óleo sobre diferentes superficies tales como lienzo, papel, madera y metal. Aunque aplica el óleo impasto, también déja areas de la pintura con menos cantidad de óleo, donde el espectador puede ver la primera capa de pintura, sin ocultar el proceso de la pintura; también trabaja con técnica húmedo sobre húmedo.
Influenciado por Mark Rothko y Wilhelm Sasnal, Beda usa imágenes impresas o digitales para pintarlas y presentarlas en formas que hacen que las obras hablen por sí mismas; él crea limites finos y distintivos entre objetos y su limitación espacial definida por la luz y la sombra; las imágens que Beda utiliza vienen de su búsqueda por entendimiento del idioma Inglés. Aprender un idioma, sumergido en una cultura diferente ha sido clave cuando se trata de las influencias que Beda recibe como inspiración en la creación de su obra.
El trabajo de Beda se desarrolla entre abstracción y representación; gran parte de su trabajo incluye retratos y objetos. Él pinta una figura para probar a sí mismo que puede hacer una imagen realista del sujeto, luego la destruye poco a poco, retirando partes de la imagen, haciendo un nuevo objeto, percibido desde una perspetciva diferente. La obras en muestra, resumen los estados emocionales por los cuales el artista pasó durante la creación de las piezas, incluyendo miedos y pensamientos de inseguridad; marcas accidentales sobre lienzos recolectadas del trabajo en progreso durante el momento de creación de las piezas componen la serie de la instalación escultural de 30 pinturas pequeñas. Una de las ideas principales detrás de la colección de pinturas es el reciclaje y mantener la tierra limpia y organizada.
Un diccionario con una pintura sobre San Lucas de la biblia llamada Auto Sanarse I, muestra los aspectos psicológicos de la trascendencia de las intensiones humanas, miedos y el conflicto constante con el alma. Esto junto con una pintura en metal llamada Auto Sanarse II acompaña la instalación de pinturas pequeñas junto con dos videos documentales de Beda pintando su cuerpo y uno de él quemando una de sus pinturas. Sobre el primer video Beda comenta “Lo hice para entenderme mejor como pintor y para observar la documentación con el objetivo de entender el miedo y las debilidades que existen al ser pintor”, en el segundo video, Beda reflexiona sobre él como: “estaba intentando encontrar perfección y llegué al mismísimo principio. El vacío. El vacío es un momento antes de la creación del universo”. Ambos videos son exhibidos en la galeria y la pintura quemada está actualmente exhibida en “Revisión del desplazamiento” en la Galería Salón Colombia; en esta pieza, Beda utilizó fuego como pintura y luego de utilizarlo, el lienzo quedó solo en sí mismo, vacío, reflejando vacuidad, aquella la que Beda quería encontrar después de quemar una de sus propias creaciones.
8 piezas componen las series Ocho Demonios, un grupo de retratos presentando la apariencia física de figuras públicas; Extraordinario y Otelo presenta el entendimiento del artista sobre sí mismo, protegido por esferas e influenciado por ideas internas así como expuesto a su propia imagen, tal como puede ser apreciado en Otelo I y II. Beso y Deseos Reprimidos permite al espectador leer el sentimiento detrás de las 4 obras y expuesto justo sobre la superficie de las mismas; Un lado – otro lado al contrario, une 4 piezas donde la presencia física del artista es reconocible en escenarios diferentes y con actores y objetos diferentes; por ejemplo, una cruz, una estrella de david y la presencia de un hombre y una mujer complementan la composición de las pinturas.
Beda se refiere a sus obras como “Las pinturas me gritan a la cara… ellas hablan sobre miedo, amor, demonios y el cumplimiento de sueños”. Explosión Absoluta (pasando por un desfiladero estrecho) trae a Bogotá Arte Contemporáneo el escenario para entender y leer la experiencia que Beda tuvo durante los últimos meses dedicados a la creación del trabajo hecho exclusivamente para su exhibición individual en la galería.

Painter Bartosz Beda joins Bogotá Arte Contemporáneo BAC’s gallery international programme with a series of 53 artworks and two videos on display, as part of the exhibition ‘Blast of Absolute (passing through a narrow defile)’ from November 26 to January 9th 2015.
Originally from Lódz, Poland, Beda developed interest in painting from early age, influenced by his elder brother who is a painter himself. Then, motivated by his parents, Beda pursued art studies over in the UK, gaining a BA and MA in Fine Arts, accomplished together with a 6 month residency scholarship in Dresden Germany, where he had the chance to reinforce and improve his technique and artistic research.
He is currently living in the United States of America where is developing new body of work and continues to present pieces that remark his interest for differentiation. The artwork created by Beda takes hidden depths to the surface and at the same time leaves the spectator with a sense of the unsaid. Beda’s practice includes his political consciousness and in some of his artworks, people may identify how political matters have had an effect on his notion of the present, on this he says: “they are pictures of physical and intellectual developments of human concerns, like safety, belonging, etc. They are inspired by recent war conflicts around the world, but they do not show a war”.
When looking at any piece of his creation, one can see the combination of life and action taking place in one painting; Beda is interested in deforming the painting, finding a way to flatten the colour and image, in erasing the focal point and in creating limitless space on the surface of the canvas.
Beda employs oil on different surfaces such as canvas, paper, wood and metal. He applies paint impasto, leaves areas of the painting with lesser amount of oil, where viewer can see the primer and works with wet on wet technique as well.
Influenced by Mark Rothko and Wilhelm Sasnal, Beda uses printed or digital images to paint them and present them in ways that make the paintings speak by themselves; he creates fine and distinctive boundaries among objects and their spatial limitation defined by light and shadows; the images Beda uses come from his understanding and investigation of English language. Learning a foreign language and immersed in a different culture have been key, when talking about the influences Beda receives of inspiration for the creation of his work.
Beda’s works develops among abstraction and representation; most of his work involves portraits and objects. He paints a figure to prove him-self, he can do a realistic image of the subject; then, he destroys that image little by little, removing parts of it and making a new object perceived from a different perspective. The pieces on display summarize the artist’s emotional stages that arose by the time when creating the pieces, including fears and thoughts of insecurity.
Accidental marks on canvas, collected from the ongoing work while the creation of the pieces, make up the series of 30 small paintings that built the sculptural installation, located at the gallery space. One of the main ideas behind the collection of painting is recycling and keeping earth nice and clean.
A dictionary with a painting about St. Luke from the bible named Heal Thyself I depicts the psychological aspects of the transcendence in human intentions, fears and the constant conflict with the soul. This, together with one painting on metal named Heal Thyself II accompany the installation of small paintings conjoint with two video documentations of Beda painting his body and of the burning of one painting. On the first video, Beda says “I did it to understand myself better as a painter and to see the documentation in order to understand the fear and weaknesses as a painter” on the second, Beda reflects on it as “I was trying to reach perfection and came back to the very beginning. The emptiness. The emptiness is a moment before the creation of universe”. Both videos are being exhibited at the gallery and the burned piece is currently on exhibition at “Revision of Displacement” at the Gallery Salon Colombia, Nogales School in Bogotá; on this piece Beda used fire as paint and after using it, canvas was left alone by itself, resembling emptiness, the one Beda aimed to encounter after burning one of his very own creations.
8 pieces compose the series Eight Evils, a group of portraits depicting physical appearance of public figures; Extraordinarius and Othello present the artist’s understanding of his self, depicted in spheres and influenced by internal ideas as well as placed against his own image, as it can be appreciated in Othello I and II. Kiss and Repressed Wishes may allow the viewer to read the feelings behind the four pieces; One Side – Other Side on the contrary, conjoint 4 pieces where the physical presence of the artist is recognisable, in rather different scenarios and with different accompanying characters and objects, instead of portraying emotions; a catholic cross, one Star of David, and the presence of a man and a woman complement the composition of the paintings.
Beda refers to his pieces as “The paintings scream to my face… they are about fear, love, evil and fulfilment of dreams”. Blast of Absolute (passing through a narrow defile) brings to Bogotá Arte Contemporáneo the scenario to understand and read Beda’s experience over the past months, dedicated to the creation of the artwork made exclusively for his solo exhibition in Bogotá, Colombia.
