Arte Continua is pleased to present, on the occasion of its 5th anniversary in Cuba and the 30 years of Galleria Continua, the group exhibition MIRADOR CIRCULAR (Circular viewpoint), with Cuban artists Alejandro Campins, Iván Capote, Yoan Capote, Elizabet Cerviño, Carlos Garaicoa, Osvaldo González, Luis López-Chávez, José Mesías, Susana Pilar and José Yaque.
Art as life is a journey, a path of pursuits and experimentation, a cluster of experiences, lessons and feelings that delineate our perception of the world and our transition through it. This journey requires pauses, meditation and observation, such as those provided by the viewpoints set upon the architecture of a landscape. In every route and path, they allow us to halt and enjoy an encounter with the landscape, in order to take-in its full perspective and resume our trip. From their privileged position, they direct the experience of the individuals towards points considered exceptional. Thus, these points...enable for the individuals the possibility of rediscovering and recognizing themselves as part of a natural and cultural environment with remarkable aesthetic qualities. Circular viewpoints offer the wider observation point possible: a 360-degrees panorama. As we stand in them, we meet no visual obstacles and may gaze at all the surroundings.
Given these assumptions, MIRADOR CIRCULAR runs through the interpretation and gaze of each artist. Various fragments or frames of an intimate landscape are unveiled as a result of that moment of reflection that we indulge in along the way. The one that may very well be represented by an idea from the Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa: “It is in us that landscapes have landscapes. So, if I imagine them, I create them; if I believe in them, they exist; if they exist, I see them as the others (...) Where would I be if not in myself, and in the type and genre of my sensations? Life is what we make of it. The journeys are the travelers. What we see is not what we see, but what we are”.
