Descripción de la Exposición
Sokyo Lisbon is pleased to open its gallery in Lisbon with an exhibition by one of the most celebrated Japanese ceramists. Opening on the 22nd – 23rd of October, Mishima Kimiyo’s exhibition is her first solo exhibition in Portugal and in a commercial gallery in Europe, following a solo exhibition at Artissima, Italy in 2019. This is a rare opportunity to see and enjoy this artist’s work, an artist that is represented in major private and institutional collections worldwide.
Mishima Kimiyo was born in Juso, Osaka in 1932. Having began her career working in mixed media she soon was drawn to the solid yet breakable features of clay, combining the silkscreen process with three-dimensional works, resulting in exquisite ceramic works of art that express her anxiety about consumption, waste and the insatiable appetite for information of modern society. Her works are included, amongst others, in the permanent collections of British Museum, UK; Art Institute of Chicago, US; Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, Japan; M+, Hong Kong; National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, Japan.
This exhibition includes works from different stages of her career starting from 1969.
