The exhibition explores the new social and economic reality that has made itself evident in Cuba in recent years, from artistic, cultural, sociological and anthropological perspectives. It focuses on the social spaces of artists in the dynamic but complex city of Havana. The title refers to the spaces between the artwork and its reception, between language and information, and between the actual past and imagined future. The exhibition will feature drawings, paintings, prints, photographs and videos. The Spaces Between is conceived by Cuban artist and critic, Antonio Eligio (Tonel) and Keith Wallace, associate director and curator of the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery in Vancouver, Canada. The exhibition, which is a co-production between Bildmuseet and the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue.
