Over the last seven years I have developed my artistic practice with Nora Aurrekoetxea as an artistic duo. Our work departs from the reading of our historical memory, inhereted social imaginary and the traces inscribed in the socio-political conflicts where solid structures are diluted in a liquid time. By these means, we try to make a presence of an absence. We are interested in how the ruins and debris of the social resistance become symbols and totems. In our work, the burnt, the damaged, the waste, the slogans and the iconography of the struggle are re-contextualized in order to provide them with new symbolic uses, building bridges with the present. Our work confronts the strength of the memory and the fragility of the moment. This situation could be applicable to other contexts, and recognizable by other subjectivities -in the words of Aristide Antonas-: “lighted by the fire of instability and the promising negation of the present.”
