Luís Lázaro Matos’ artistic practice is rooted in drawing, a medium that allowed him to develop ideas and represent them in the same way architects and fashion designers would sketch and formulate their visions. His works touch issues over identity, architecture, social life, and his projects are often dealing with narratives embedded in specific places, traslated through a very ironic lens: for example, for his solo exhibition in Kunsthalle Lissabon in 2015, Luís Lázaro Matos researched over the only wild population of monkeys left in Europe, in Gibraltar, and the tradition that says that until the monkeys will live on the cape, Gibraltar will remain English. He has been recently awarded with a production prize from Mecenés du Sud for the research and realization of a specific project in the south of France, and he has been selected by MAAT (Museo de Arte, Arquitetura e Tecnologia, Lisbon) for Artists’ Film International 2017.
