Maria Bechily, filántropa radicada en Chicago, ciudad que ha sido su hogar desde que se fue de Cuba como refugiada en 1961. María es la fundadora de una de las primeras agencias de marketing y relaciones públicas dirigidas a los hispanos en Chicago. También es miembro de la junta directiva de Chicago Community Trust y cofundadora de Nuestro Futuro. Está casada con el abogado Scott Hodes y ambos son importantes Patrones de las Artes. Bechily es miembro del Patronato del Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) y es una de los miembros del comité anfitrión del nuevo Fondo de Arte Latinoamericano y Latinx lanzado por este museo en noviembre de 2018. Maria is the founder of one of the first public relations and marketing agencies to target Hispanics in Chicago. She is also a former board member of the Chicago Community Trust, and the co-founder of Nuestro Futuro, an identity-focused fund at the Chicago Community Trust. She is married with the attorney Scott Hodes and both are significant Patron of the Arts. Bechily is Trustee of the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) and is one of the host committee members of the new Latin American and Latinx Art Fund launched by this museum in november 2018. Her husband Hodes is an expert in legal advice in art and one of the best friends of the renowned artist Christo during decades. His father, Barnet, was art collector too. María C. Bechily created one of the first public relations and marketing agencies to identify and reach Hispanic consumers in Chicago. She also appeared in front of the camera hosting Spanish language television shows, which received EMMY nominations. Bechily also has significant government and public policy experience she gained when working for a former U.S. senator from Illinois. Additionally, Bechily served on the Commission on Chicago Landmarks, the Chicago Tourism Council and the Metropolitan Pierna Exposition Authority by mayoral appointment, and, by presidential appointment, she served on the National Advisory Council on Women’s Educational Programs and the White House Advisory Committee on Personnel. Presently, Bechily is a life trustee of the Northwestern Memorial Foundation and of the Goodman Theatre, where she is a founding chair of the board’s education committee. Bechily holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Loyola University in Chicago and a master’s degree in public policy studies from the Harris School of Public Policy of the University of Chicago.
