Descripción de la Exposición ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------- Curated by Gustavo Orta, Fans Forever recreates an exhibition of artist-designed fans that were auctioned off to raise funds for the Church of Santa María del Rosario, a jewel of Cuban baroque architecture. Notable artists who participated in the event included Wifredo Lam, René Portocarrero, Mario Carreño, Mariano Rodríguez, Carlos Enríquez, Cundo Bermúdez and Felipe Orlando. Fans Forever will feature 50 fans painted by some of the artists who exhibited in that historic occasion, along with artists of later generations. Through the recreation of this historic event, the exhibition seeks to remember the ever-so-beautiful freedom of expression by Cuban artists in the 1940s. Since 2005, the Freedom Tower at Miami Dade College has served as the flagship venue for premier exhibitions and the administrative offices of MDC's Museum & Galleries of Art + Design; including the newly founded, MDC Museum of Art + Design. With more than 13,000 square feet of exhibition space, the Museum is known for its presentation of exhibitions by emerging artists, as well as major figures in modern, post-modern and contemporary art. The MDC Museum of Art + Design vision is to present world-renowned artists, support the vast community of local emerging and established artists, and allow a platform to present exhibitions by MDC's many distinguished students, alumni and faculty.
