Platón holds a Ph.D. in Caribbean Literature with an emphasis in Afro-Caribbean Performance and Interdisciplinary artistic expressions. She has a great interest in artistic projects aimed at social transformation, for which she has worked in teacher training, community empowerment and as part of the teaching faculty at higher education institutions in Puerto Rico. Her book-length project is titled Defiant Itineraries: Caribbean Paradigms in American Dance and Film (Palgrave Macmillan, 2015). Platón has published extensively about Puerto Rican artists and performers.
